Food Photography Course

Photography techniques — Food Styling — Lighting — Editing

This practical food photography course teaches you how to take incredible photos to capture your culinary creations in their best light so they look irresistible. Learn everything from which camera to use, lighting and angles to food styling and telling a story through photography. We’ll also cover practical techniques to improve image quality and how to use imagery in blogs and social media for maximum engagement.

On CNM’s Food Photography Course, learn:

  • How to take sensational photos without needing to buy expensive equipment.

  • How to style your food with props, colours and garnishes to create the wow factor.

  • How to develop your own style of photos to make you stand out from the crowd.

About the course

Taking stunning photos that capture your culinary expertise and the essence of your brand is artform in its own right. Knowing the best lighting and angles, how to work with shadows and making your images come to life with food styling is key.

This hands-on workshop explains the dos and don’ts of food photography and food styling, editing techniques to enhance your images and how to attract attention online with your own signature style of images.

If you have a camera of your own, we recommend you bring it with you; however, a smart phone with a good quality camera is also suitable. Students are encouraged to bring a tripod if possible, but again, this is not necessary.

You should also bring a selection of props for food styling such as bowls, plates, cutlery, tablecloths and napkins.

Who should take this course?

This food photography workshop is suitable for anyone with a passion for food who wants to enhance their food photography skills. It is an ideal course for food bloggers, chefs, recipe developers, food stylists, natural therapists who use recipes in their content, café and restaurant owners and food-based businesses.

What our students say

“Realising that you don’t need a professional studio or expensive camera to capture beautiful food stories was a defining moment for me. CNM gave me the confidence to play around with different lighting, textures, plate spacing and colour combinations to create wonderful food stories, using just my smartphone. This opened so many possibilities and made food styling far more achievable and accessible”

Chris Nelson, CNM Vegan Natural Chef student

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the Food photography course and it has given me a great deal of confidence when presenting my recipes. I have gained so much through the lecturer’s inspiration, techniques and advice. This includes further interest in the food I am working with and displaying through social media which in turn has contributed to a recipe development collaboration which is both exciting rewarding.”

Emma Lambert, CNM Vegan Natural Chef Student

“Really enjoyed the day! Very valuable information and skills gained. Xavier was a great teacher I will definitely recommend it to others when it’s next on. ”
