Did you know that there are more than 3,000 different chemicals that make up fragrance compounds? Unfortunately, the majority of air fresheners, scented candles, reed diffusers and incense use artificial fragrances in the end product, which are extremely toxic and dangerous not only to us but also to our pets. They release harmful particles into the air, called volatile organic compounds, which according to the EPA, can cause respiratory irritation, headaches, liver and kidney damage, and even cancer. They also contain phthalates, which are known to cause hormonal abnormalities, birth defects and reproductive problems. And if the product uses an aerosol spray, it also contains propellants like butane and propane, which come with their own list of dangers.
At the Natural Home Scents workshop, we will dive into the science of making your own incense, and combining natural aromas using widely available ingredients, to create an array of natural, non-toxic, beautifully-scented products to perfume your home and give it that homely touch. You will also learn how to make healthy wonderfully-smelling gifts for every occasion.
At the workshop, you will create the following natural products:
Incense cones
Soy wax candle in a cup
Moth repellent / wardrobe-refreshing scented bags
Room or pillow spray
Jar air fresheners
