Homeopathy to Balance Hormones

Relieve painful periods, PMT and menopausal symptoms

Homeopathy offers support across the spectrum of life stages for women, addressing a range of issues from pregnancy and childbirth to the challenges of ageing. Tailored homeopathic remedies provide effective support for women’s health, easing hormone-related symptoms during puberty, menstrual cycles and menopause.

Here are four effective remedies to help manage pre-menstrual tension, painful periods, and menopausal symptoms including hot flushes.

Homeopathy for Pre-Menstrual Tension

Many women experience pre-menstrual tension (PMT), with monthly hormonal fluctuations affecting energy and mood. While some women sail through and hardly notice their hormonal changes, others struggle and find their cycles dominating life. For chronic cases, seeking a homeopath for constitutional prescribing is recommended. For milder symptoms, here are a couple of some homeopathic remedies you can try yourself.

Lachesis is a remedy derived from snake venom. Women who benefit from it often have a sharp tongue and fiery temper, particularly when they are pre-menstrual. However, beneath the surface, they may experience feelings of anxiety or depression, along with physical symptoms like painful breasts and ovaries. Lachesis symptoms typically exacerbate on the left side or may shift from left to right. Individuals who respond well to Lachesis often experience significant and immediate relief from all PMT symptoms as soon as menstruation begins. If this sounds like you, Lachesis may offer relief.

Pulsatilla is another effective remedy for hormonal imbalances. It’s particularly beneficial for sensitive and gentle-natured women who tend to experience emotional outbursts during PMT, such as collapsing in floods of tears. Pulsatilla characters wear their heart of their sleeve and feel much better after crying or being comforted by a friend or loved one. Their symptoms worsen in warm, stuffy environments and improve when they are outside in fresh air.

Homeopathy for Painful Periods

Period pains can range from mild discomfort to severe debilitation for some individuals. It’s important to note that cramps can sometimes be a sign of low magnesium levels, which might improve with a magnesium supplement and/or taking the homeopathic remedy Mag Phos for a few months. For immediate cramp relief, Mag Phos is often recommended. Cramps that respond well to Mag Phos typically improve with heat, bending double and applying pressure, meaning you may find relief by curling up with a hot water bottle on the affected area. For chronic and severe pains, it’s advisable to seek the assistance of a local homeopath for constitutional (deeper acting) treatment.

Homeopathy for Menopause

Menopause marks a natural transition in a woman’s life, signalling a decrease in the body’s oestrogen production. However, societal pressures have often led women to view this stage with dread, seeking to delay it and resorting to Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). Yet, is this fear-driven narrative a product of societal norms valuing youth over wisdom?

In some cultures, menopause is seen as an empowering phase, marking the beginning of an exciting new time of life for women, offering newfound freedom and opportunities for self-discovery. For those wary of synthetic hormones, homeopathy presents a natural alternative, addressing symptoms holistically, without having to be concerned about potential side effects. Lifestyle adjustments and dietary changes can also significantly impact menopausal experiences.

Sepia is one of our most cherished hormonal remedies, renowned for its efficacy in addressing various hormonal imbalances. It offers profound relief for exhausted mothers, particularly those with young children, and proves invaluable during the onset of menopausal symptoms like hot flushes. A sepia-induced hot flush often manifests as a rapid surge of heat racing upwards through the body and menstruation is often accompanied by a sensation of dragging or heaviness in the abdomen, back or vulva. Emotionally, individuals may experience a sense of low mood or anxiety, coupled with fatigue and lethargy. Administered typically at night, a single dose of Sepia for three consecutive nights can provide significant relief from these common menopausal symptoms, provided the symptom profile aligns with the remedy.

Restore hormonal balance with homeopathy

Homeopathy offers a holistic approach to women’s health, supporting women through various life stages and hormonal transitions. Tailored remedies address a spectrum of symptoms, from menstrual irregularities to menopausal discomforts, providing relief and promoting overall well-being. For those experiencing mild symptoms, self-prescription with remedies like Lachesis and Pulsatilla may offer relief, while chronic conditions warrant consultation with a professional homeopath for constitutional treatment. A skilled homeopath can help restore balance and support the body’s natural processes, rather than merely suppressing symptoms.
